Living Beyond the Tomb and Walking in Resurrection Power
On Resurrection Sunday, I had the incredible honor of sharing a message at my church titled: “Jesus Got Up, Now You Get Up!”
This wasn’t just a message—it was a call to action. A reminder that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is not just a moment in history, but a moment that continues to shape our identity, power, and purpose today.
Jesus Didn’t Just Rise—He Rose with Power
When Jesus got up from the grave, He didn’t crawl out weak or wounded. The fact that He is the only person who was able to get up from the grave on His own (through the power of God), should cause us to be amazed. No one, since the world began, has been able to do this. Not only did He just rise from the grave, He rose with all power and authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18). He conquered death, hell, and the grave—and then handed that authority over to us (Matthew 18:18). We are not left powerless. He gave us the ability to bind and loose, to walk in spiritual authority, and to represent Him on earth.
But if that’s true, why do so many of us still live like He’s still in the tomb?
Are You Still Living in a Tomb?
Here’s the reality: many of us are living like the resurrection never happened. Not because we don’t believe in Jesus, but because we haven’t let the truth of the resurrection transform us. Some of it is not our fault because we have been taught (in some churches) in a way that de-emphasizes the significance of His death and focuses on the servanthood and His humility during His traumatic experience leading up to His death.
Let’s call out the tombs we don’t talk about:
We stay locked in fear, even though we’ve been given peace.
We carry unhealed pain, long after He offered healing.
We let past trauma define our identity, instead of allowing the resurrection to rewrite our story.
We walk in mistrust, even though He called us His friends (John 15:15).
We live bound by shame, regret, and spiritual paralysis, all while the stone has already been rolled away.
These are the modern-day tombs. Places where our dreams, confidence, identity, and joy have been buried.
But here’s the truth: Jesus got up, so you don’t have to stay buried.
Your Identity Has Already Been Secured
Romans 8:15–17 reminds us that we are not slaves to fear—we are children of God, heirs to the promise, co-heirs with Christ. We are adopted, accepted, and anointed.
Jesus said in John 15:15,“I no longer call you servants… I have called you friends. ”He brought us in. He gave us access. He revealed the heart of the Father to us.
So why are we still living like outsiders?
A Challenge to Rise
This isn’t just encouragement. This is a challenge:
If Jesus got up…
Will you get up from fear?
Will you rise out of shame?
Will you step out of the grave of your past and walk in purpose?
You don't have to feel strong--you just have to believe He is.
John 14:12–14 reminds us that we will do greater works. Jesus said if we believe in Him, we can ask in His name, and He will do it—because He is glorified through it.
This is not about hype. This is about walking in resurrection reality.
Final Thoughts
The tomb is empty. Jesus got up—and when He did, He broke the power of everything trying to hold you down.
Now it’s your turn.
Get up and live like He lives in you.
